Port of Civitavecchia

In December 2015, as part of a public tender, Italferr was engaged to draw up a Preliminary Design Project for the reorganisation of the railway system in the area of the Port Authority of Civitavecchia.

The activities comprised in this Preliminary Design Project are as follows
Laying of the operational tracks and track connections with the future Terminal Container and Pier 25, in the area of the former Vespucci quay, with a view to removing any criticalities that might compromise the efficiency of the operational track and minimising any interferences with the railway infrastructure and the public and operational port road systems.
Creating a new arrivals and departures area, with a view to pre-empting any saturation problems that might otherwise arise from the freight station of Civitavecchia, on the basis of the number of trains envisaged at full capacity.
Creation of two non-electrified links, one acting as a direct link between the new A/D area located to the north of the port area on the Grosseto side, and the new container terminal, and the other connecting the A/D zone to pier 25.
Creation of a track connection between the future free zone and the port area, in order to meet the requirements associated with the forecast expansion of the cargo handling activities.
Italferr has also drawn up a Feasibility Study for the new passenger interchange terminal located near Porta Tarquinia and named "New Integrated modal interchange point for the Port of Civitavecchia", which will involve the creation of a new passenger station on the site of the former Porta Tarquinia train depot.
This new station will act as a simple and immediate link between the Port of Civitavecchia and the train, thus reducing the distances and inconvenience for passengers, while ensuring the efficient interconnction of the various transport networks.
