Activation of the up line Rometta - Pace del Mela
On Sunday 22 November, 2009 at 5:45 AM, the up line between the Rometta and Pace del Mela stations, the definitive configuration of the two ACC (Central Computerised System) in the stations and the BAB (Automatic Block System) on the line were activated.
The Rometta - Pace del Mela section is about 9 Km long and includes two new intermediate stops at Spadafora and Torregrotta.
With this most recent activation the Messina - Patti section on the Palermo - Messina line has now been doubled, an operation begun in the 1980's which develops over about a 60 Km long stretch almost completely varying compared to the historical line.
The doubling of the Messina - Patti section allows an operating speed at a maximum of 220 Km/h; the increase of the line potential; the increase of commercial speed from the current 70 Km/h to 100 Km/h; reduction of about 30 minutes in the time it takes to run the entire line for the long distance traffic and 20 minutes for local transportation; improvement of the safety standards and regularity of the circulation, also considering the elimination of 12 level crossings.
