Genoa Hub
The Genoa Hub represents a strategic point on the national and international railway network as it constitutes a major interchange centre between the port and railway systems on the Genoa – Ventimiglia, Tirrenica and Milan – Genoa main lines. The hub itself also constitutes the most efficient system for railway travel in the context of the relatively vast metropolitan area.
Planned work aim to:
• separate traffic flows: long haul passengers and freight from regional and metropolitan passengers
• complete a link between the Liguria port system and the root national network be it east-west or, principally, north-south
• strengthen and automate hub infrastructure and facilities to extend the metropolitan transport supply
• adjust station facilities at Genoa Voltri, Genoa Sampierdarena, Genoa Brignole stations, and adjust services in the Genoa Terralba area and at Genoa Brignole station, to facilitate intramodal and intermodal interchange.
The work referred-to above divides into the following projects:
Voltri-Brignole infrastructural upgrade
upgrading Genoa Hub command and control system (the project consists of: remote-controlling the Hub lines from a new Central Control Point, located at Genoa Sanpierdarena, with the activation of a new CCS, as well as of completing infrastructural and technological work towards traffic circulatio with parallel working on the Giovi lines)
modified route on Genoa-Ventimiglia line in the Pegli-Volti stretch
rationalising stretch installations and stops to upgrade the Genoa Hub regional railway service
