Turin Hub
The Turin Hub is among the key points on the national railway system, either in terms of its own value for metropolitan travel, or regarding its relationship to the role of gathering point for the HS/HC system and for the Turin-Lyon corridor.
Work planned to the hub, be it infrastructural or technological, will make it possible to:
• increase the overall Hub capacity
• achieve greater intramodal and intermodal integration
• increase the overall degree of automation in installations, improving their efficient management
• achieve consistent performance, quantitatively and qualitatively, with all the lines flowing into the Hub itself.
To achieve these aims the following work has been planned:
• Porta Susa-Stura track quadruplication
• adapting Turin-Lyon old line
• Chivasso-Aosta line direct link to the Turin-Milan (Lunetta di Chivasso) line and other widespread work
• Porta Susa-Lingotto Passante and P.ta Susa junction P.ta Nuova link (new passante line between Turin Lingotto and Turin Susa stations, integrated with the Turin Susa station to Turin P.N. station connecting stretch and including the Turin Lingotto Microprocessor-based Interlocking System; facilitates the separation of traffic by specialisation in the Hub area)
• technological upgrade of the Turin Hub (technological adjustment of the Turin Hub aimed at increasing potential, with the introduction of the PBRRI and the new Trofarello Overall Development Plan, as well as the CCBS 3/3 Coded current on the stretches of the hub. Guaranteeing the new ABS on concerned Hub installations. The above work is part of that included in the 1st technological adjustment Hub phase, which also contemplates introducing new central apparatus in certain installations. Possible later project phase: completing line technological setup and introducing remote controlling from Central Control Point with the activation of the CCS).
