Environment and archaeology
Italferr is the Italian State Railway Engineering Company which, from its inception in 1984, has planned and carried out the railway infrastructure for a territory such as Italy, rich in extraordinary environmental, archaeological and artistic assets which are known and enjoyed by the whole world.
Italferr has for over twenty years responded to a territorial context of great beauty which was born of the harmonious integration of nature with human activity, settled in time and history, in a millennia-long process. Italferr’s commitment is to ensure the development of national railway infrastructure while respecting an environment of high natural, historical and artistic worth which, as well as having World Heritage status, thanks to the tourist industry is also one of the country’s main economic resources.
Infrastructure development is a constant challenge which needs to find the right answers to the ever sharper requirements of the Controlling Bodies and Local Communities, in a vision of the environment involving both protection and growth, in a delicate balance between conservation and intervention.
Italferr has thus set itself up over the years to ensure control and management of the various basic environmental themes by acquiring a unique body of experience in this sector, in both quantitative and qualitative terms.
On confirming the results it has achieved, in December 2006, Italferr obtained certification under the UNI EN ISO 14001:2004 standard for the following activities:
• planning
• managing assignation of works contracts
• construction management.
The main environmental activities dealt with by Italferr are:
- Environmental Monitoring;
- Environmental Planning;
- archaeological research;
- Reclaiming Polluted Sites;
- Data Banks.
