Italferr and the environment
For over 25 years Italferr, an engineering company of Gruppo Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane, has addressed a territorial context of great beauty, created by the harmonic integration of nature with human activity, embedded over time and history within a process lasting millenniums.
Italferr’s commitment lies in the realisation of the national railway infrastructure while respecting an environment of great natural and historical-artistic value which, apart from being a heritage of mankind, is also one of Italy’s main economic resources by virtue of the tourism industry.
Infrastructural development is a continuous challenge entailing a systematic comparison with all institutional and non-institutional stakeholders, from the first phases of design to those of realisation until completion and activation of the infrastructure, focussing on local requirements in all areas and environmental context.
Over the years Italferr has thereby structured itself in order to guarantee the control and management of various environmental issues, gaining a unique experience in this sector in qualitative and quantitative terms.
By way of confirming the results achieved, in December 2006 Italferr obtained certification pursuant to standard UNI EN ISO 14001:2004 for the following activities:
design;
management of the award of work contracts;
control of constructions.
The main environmental activities carried out by Italferr are:
- Environmental Design
- Building Site Environmental Control
- Environmental Monitoring
- Land and Waste Clearance and Management
- Archaeological Studies and Surveys
- Environmental Communication (Databases and Websites)
- Environmental Sustainability
In 2010 Italferr developed a method based on scientific and certified criteria (UNI ISO 14064-1:2006) for measuring, mitigating and eliminating greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) generated by infrastructural design and realisation activities.
