Caserta-Foggia
In the development plan for the main Southern Italian routes, the Caserta-Foggia Main line represents the southern link of the European chain.
The Caserta-Foggia line is part of the Naples-Bari route, as an extension of the Rome-Naples HS/HC route towards the southwest of the peninsula.
Planned work essentially consists of double-tracking existing line (part flanking, partly along modified route) and of the corresponding technological upgrade of the line, the underlying aims of which are to increase infrastructure capacity, improve the performance of the main line and increase the quality and quantity of related traffic flows, providing a better customer accessibility to rail travel. The technological upgrade work will also enable consistent improvement in efficient management of the stretch.
The following work has been planned to achieve these aims:
Caserta-Foggia infrastructure/technological upgrade (includes Bovino-Cervaro double tracking, Orsara-Bovino stretch double tracking is not included in the scope of the Plan)
Naples-Bari route: speeding up and double tracking Cancello-Benevento and Bretella di Foggia (planned)
Naples-Bari route: Apice-Orsara double tracking (planned)
