Milan-Genova-Ventimiglia
The Milan-Genoa-Ventimiglia route is the result of the integration and overlaying of the Genoa-Rotterdam route; a major European Union project which, in the Genoa-Novi Ligure/Tortona section, represents the freight link between the Liguria port system and the network on the Po Valley, with the Genoa-Milan route, predominantly used for passenger traffic. An integral part of the route itself is the Genoa Ventimiglia mixed-use passenger/freight line functioning as a veritable mountain pass line towards the French railway network.
Along the entire Milan-Genoa-Ventimiglia main line, plans and work are underway for important infrastructure and technological investments, to give the route suitable performance features to satisfy passenger and freight traffic demands forecast for the three functional sections described above.
The main projects are:
- Genoa-Ventimiglia stretch track doubling, Andora-S.Lorenzo completion of track doubling Genoa-Ventimiglia
- Andora-Finale stretch (planned)
- track quadruplication on the Tortona-Voghera line (final detailed design)*
- track quadruplication for Pavia-Milan Rogoredo (preliminary design)
- technological/performance works on main Phase lines (the work consists of a set of activities of a predominantly
- technological type, aimed at obtaining homogeneous performance standards on the Milan-Genoa route which are consistent with the planned level of service, with a view to specialising the lines).
