Genoa, 11 Dicembre 2016

Sunday 11 December 2016, marks the opening of the second track of the Andora-San Lorenzo section of the Genoa-Savona-Ventimiglia line.
The opening ceremony was attended by the CEO of Italferr Carlo Carganico, with the CEOs of RFI,  Maurizio Gentile, and Trenitalia, Barbara Morgante, and the President of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, Claudia Cattani. Also present were the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Riccardo Nencini, the President of the Region of Liguria Giovanni Toti, the Head of the Regional Department of Transport Gianni Berrino, the President of the Province Fabio Natta, and the Mayor of Imperia Carlo Capacci.
The maiden journey was made with a regional train carrying all the senior government, local and other officials.
Itaferr was responsible for preparing and approving the various stages of the engineering design, and for the related authorisation procedure.
During construction, the company also acted as Site Supervisor, coordinating the work of the numerous civil and engineering contractors involved.
The doubling of the track was made possible thanks to the joint collaboration of all the Group companies involved, in various roles, in the construction, certification and commissioning (RFI, Italcertifer, Trenitalia, Italferr).
The new track, built further uphill compared to the existing track, is about 19 km long, 16 km of which are in tunnels. Three new stations have been built at Imperia, replacing the former two stations of Oneglia and Porto Maurizio, Diano and Andora, the latter at the connection with the existing track towards Genoa.
