Cassia-Monte Mario Railway Tunnel

Northern section of the Rome orbital railway

It has recently proved necessary to carry out structural reinforcement work on this tunnel, featuring preliminary demolitions followed by the reconstruction of the invert.
The work was carried out using cutting-edge underground construction technology: the artificial ground freezing method.
Pipes are run through the soil of the invert and spring line of the tunnel and refrigerants are then run through the pipes, freezing the soil to a temperature of -10°C.
Italferr was in charge of the execution planning phase and Works Management.
