Development and modernisation of the Syrian railway network
Italferr has run a series of projects providing technical support for developing and modernising the Syrian railway network so as integrate links between the Mediterranean and the developing regions of the Middle East:
Feasibility study and pre-design for the Palmyra-deir al Zoor railway line
Feasibility study and pre-design for the Sharkia-Palmyra railway line
Pre-design and detailed planning for a railway carriage repair works in Aleppo
Verifying the design of the Al Tabejeh-Al Bookamal and Alkansa-Al Akkari railway lines
Feasibility study, pre-design and detailed planning for the Damascus-Daraa railway line (Jordanian border)
In particular, as regards the Damascus-Daraa line, Italferr has worked on the conceptual design for the building of a High-speed rail line (160km/h) of approximately 110km intended for mixed passenger/freight traffic. There, stations planned are seven in number and the Daraa station includes a locomotive maintenance facility, with an annex and services for staff.
Damascus hub
Italferr has also run the executive design of the Sbena freight depot and a rolling stock maintenance area. Additionally it designed the Kadem station, Damascus’ principal passenger station, and the siding between Sbena Freight Station and Kadem Passenger Station, which extends for approximately 6 km.
This activity was completed in 2006.
