Activation of the first double-track segment between the stations of Fiumetorto and Campofelice di Roccella (Palermo)

The opening of the first double-track section between the stations of Fiumetorto and Campofelice di Roccella (Palermo) coincided with the passage of the practice run organised by Trenitalia on the morning of Sunday 24 January 2016. The opened section extends for about 8.5 km and starts from chainage km 43+968 ending at chainage km 51+838 where the double track turns into a single track and enters the station of Campofelice di Roccella. Sourced out to the General Contractor Cefal├╣ 20 (Maire Tecnimon Group), these works were designed for a broadside speed of 140/160/180 km/h and have been equipped with an RS4 Codici encoded current train protection system.
Completion of these works will inject new life into the continuance of site activities and finalisation of the two-track expansion project at the Fiumetorto-Ogliastrillo section which is of strategic importance to the Italian State Railways Group in order to continue the last segment of the two-track expansion work on the Palermo-Messina route.
