Activation of the Swiss EuroSignum-Zub Subsystem

Italferr is supervising the works and is providing support to the RFI Technical Management for the engineering aspects of the system.

On 28 November 2017 the Swiss EuroSignum/Zub with Euroloop trackside subsystem entered service on the Domodossola - Iselle di Trasquera line that crosses the frontier from Italy to Switzerland.
The commissioning of this new system is a first implementation phase, preparatory to activation of the ERTMS/ETCS Level 1 system that is planned for the same route in early 2018.

The EuroSignum/Zub system enables the current magnet-based Swiss system (Signum) to be discontinued and completes the upgrade of this line, which connects to the station at Brig in Switzerland, as far as Domodossola.
The future ERTMS/ETCS system will be the first application to enter into service on a line of conventional type.

In the months immediately following, activation of the same ERTMS/ETCS system, with radio infill, is also expected on the Domodossola-Novara line and which, when it is completed, will see the entry into service of the first interoperable route in Europe and will permit entry for European, non-Italian driven trains.

Both projects, which are co-financed by the European Union, are integral parts of TEN-T Core Corridor no. 6 "Rhine-Alpine (Genoa-Rotterdam)" connecting the ports of Antwerp and Rotterdam to the port of Genoa.

Italferr is supervising the works for both projects and is providing support to the RFI Technical Management (which is thc Client for these works) for the engineering aspects of the system.
