Professional profile

Riccardo Maria Monti graduated in Economics and Business from the University of Naples, with honours and the publication of his thesis. In 2007, he was appointed to the position of Treasurer in the Board of the Robert Kennedy Foundation, where he has worked on projects in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

From 1998 to 2012, he personally managed the development and internationalisation of the Value Partners Group, building it up from a boutique firm with 30 consultants into Italy’s number one professional consulting multinational, which, in 2012, had approximately 3,000 employees and 15 offices worldwide. During this period, he gained a thorough knowledge of the Italian industrial system and its development abroad (in both the traditional 'Made in Italy' and the cutting-edge high-tech sectors).

Riccardo Maria Monti has worked with corporations and governments in over 40 countries, in financial, telecoms, infrastructure and manufacturing projects, particularly in the larger emerging markets (Latin America, Asia, the Middle East), in the field of international expansion, in a number of large-scale projects financed by international financial institutions and in numerous privatisation processes.

From July 2012 to June 2016 he served as Vice President of SIMEST (the public company in charge of venture capital and financial support for Italian investments overseas) and from March 2012 to April 2013, he held the position of Personal Advisor for International Affairs to the Italian Minister of Economic Development, Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Passera. In these positions he was able to contribute to the consolidation of a global network of Governments and government agencies, important business ventures and investment funds in all major countries worldwide, especially in cross-border investments.

From April 2012 to June 2016 he served as Chairman of ICE, the Italian agency for promoting international trade, with the mission to support the internationalisation of Italian firms and attract foreign investments, and on the Board of Assocamerestero (the association of the Italian chambers of commerce overseas).

From April 2016 to July 2016 he served as Chairman of Grandi Stazioni S.p.A., where he oversaw the final phase of the company’s privatisation process.
