Moncenisio Tunnel

"Mediterranean" Core Network Corridor (TEN-T no. 3)

The cross-border section is about 65 km in length and runs between Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne in Savoy, and Bussoleno in the Susa Valley of Piedmont.
The main civil engineering work in this section is the approx.. 57 km long base tunnel. This is a twin tube tunnel with crossovers to provide a safe escape route for passengers in the event of an emergency.
As the member of a joint venture (set up with other highly qualified international engineering companies), Italferr has been appointed by Tunnel Euralpin Lyon Turin (TELT) – the company responsible for building and operating the infrastructure – to provide engineering services on the international section, including the significant "Operation and Equipment" project comprising operating/maintenance studies and the preliminary and final design of railway and other installations.
Since late 2008, Italferr has also been supplying specific engineering services to TELT, with regard to Operation and Maintenance, Civil Engineering Works, Geotechnics and Environment, Railway and Non-railway Installations.
