THE 3D Geotechnical Model

The computerisation of the 3D geotechnical model of the ground falls within the scope of innovation that aims at developing the infrastructure project by means of the application of the BIM system. The opportunity of managing geotechnical data via 3D modelling is especially useful for complex works, in complex stratigraphic contexts and whenever 2D representation of data distributed over extensive areas would entail excessive model approximation.
The 3D management of the model allows to analyse and clearly visualise the stratigraphy and the mechanical characteristics of the subsoil via the processing of a very large amount of data, thereby enabling very accurate graphic representation (profiles and sections) in aid of designing.
The direct link between the 3D geotechnical model and a complete database that is updated during the various project phases is an added value for the project’s BIM computerisation process.
