Expo Ferroviaria 2017

On October 3, on the occasion of the round table on “the internationalisation of the railway system”, held during the Expoferroviaria 2017 event, our Chief Executive Officer Carlo Carganico, and the General Manager of TELT Mario Virano debated the topic regarding the opportunities and possible developments of the “Silk Roads” project, which finds our country in a privileged position in linking the Far East with the West.

The CEO Carganico focused on the characterising elements of the initiative named BRI – Belt and Road Initiative – which will exploit the new vast infrastructure network that is being implemented. It is the case of ports, railways, motorways, gas and oil pipelines spanning 3 continents, 65 countries, 70% of the world population, 75% of energy reserves and 55% of the global gross product, that would undoubtedly make it the greatest strategic infrastructure project ever to be completed in the world (if it were to be entirely substantiated), thus generating enormous effects in commercial terms – almost half of the European Union’s imports come from China, that is also the latter’s second largest market.

Carganico stressed that “The Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group and Italferr are ready, with an industrial development plan of activities abroad which foresees the quadrupling of international turnover, from 1 to 4 billion Euros, to be accomplished by focusing both on transport services, and on the construction and management of overseas railroad networks. These objectives, along with a strategy of penetration into new markets, and consolidation in those were we are already present, will find our company to be a forerunner in the countries involved in the BRI project and will allow us to better address the challenges which lie ahead of us”.
