Italferr at the French Tunnel Association Congress

Paris, November 13-15, 2017.

From the 13 to 15 November 2017 at the prestigious Congress Centre in Paris, the International AFTES (French Scientific Tunnel Association - the French equivalent of the Italian Tunnel Society, chaired by Italferr) Congress was held, entitled “L’Espace souterrain Notre richesse”. This is one of the most important events worldwide, organised by the ITA (International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association) and dealt with designing and constructing underground transportation infrastructures.

The Company moderated the “Very deep underground projects” session and spoke during the “Operation and maintenance” session on “Construction and operational safety issues for tunnels on the Bologna-Florence and Milan-Genoa high speed railway lines”.

In the talk, starting with two significant Italian infrastructures built 20 years apart, the Bologna-Florence HS line (in service since 2009) and the Milan-Genoa HS “Terzo Valico dei Giovi” [Third Giovi Pass] (currently being designed and constructed), the evolutionary nature of Italferr’s engineering expertise was highlighted, in the field of the Underground Safety System and Tunnelling.

Italferr, who played a leading role in the construction of the Bologna-Florence HS line, now, thanks to its established background of excellence, confirms its presence in the complex process of designing and constructing the “Terzo Valico dei Giovi”. This is one of the most difficult and strategic sections of the “Rhine-Alpine” Core Corridor n° 6, an integral part of the TEN-T (Trans European Transport Networks).

The presence at the French Association’s congress, also provided the occasion to promote the World Tunnel Congress 2019 that will run from 3 to 9 May 2019 in Naples, organised by the Italian Tunnel Society (also see the highlight for 10/11/2017 on our intranet).
