Italferr attends Iran Rail 2017 with Fs Italiane Group

5th International Exhibition of Rail Transport

The 5th International Exhibition of Rail Transport “IRAN RAIL 2017” ended on Thursday, 18 May, in Teheran (Iran), which was also attended by Italferr, with Italcertifer, RFI and Trenitalia, and which featured a stand of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group showcasing the projects implemented abroad and aimed at strengthening our presence in the Country. The event, as declared by Babak Ahmadi, Deputy Director of RAI (Iranian Railways), hosted “130 foreign railway companies and over 160 Iranian exhibitors”. In recent years, Iran’s rail network has greatly expanded, linking up with the networks of the neighbouring countries. The interest shown by international companies has been confirmed and the country’s 2016-2021 5-year plan, as approved by the Iranian government, features an ambitious plan for modernising the current links and improving Iran’s strategic placement on the international routes. One of the most important projects – providing for the construction of 1000 km of high-speed railways – features the construction and expansion of the metropolitan networks for the cities of Teheran, Mashad, Shiraz, Tabriz, Isfahan, Ahvaz and Qom, the aim of which is to double the track kilometres over the next ten years, to achieve the goal of a network of 20,000 kilometres. The opening ceremony was attended by the Iranian Transport Minister Abbas Ahmad Akhoundi, the President of the State Railway Company Saeed Mohammadzadeh, and numerous representatives of the Iranian institutions and companies. The representatives of numerous European and Asian businesses operating in the fields of infrastructure and transportation were also present, with a surge in the number of exhibitors and participants, compared to last year, confirming the great interest, worldwide, in the development and growth prospects in the sector in this country.

At the end of the event, the CEO of Italferr, Carlo Carganico, declared: “our presence in Iran is indicative of how important we feel the Iranian market is for Italferr and our conviction that it will significantly boost the development and internationalisation goals of FS Italiane Group; our highly strategic operations on the ground will contribute to consolidate our international reputation as a reliable and our competitive edge, qualifying Italferr as an authoritative partner in supporting the development of the country’s infrastructure”.

Italferr, with FS Italiane Group, is currently operating in Iran as the member ofg a Joint Venture with Iran Oston, a local engineering company, under a “Project Management Consultancy” contract, for managing and supervising the activities of the Chinese Contractor CREC, in connection with the design and construction of the country’s first high-speed rail line connecting Tehran – Qom – Isfahan, which is 415 km long, with a minimum speed of 250 km/h.
