Italferr wins an important new contract in the Maghreb region

The engineering company of the FS Italiane Group continues to strengthen its competitive position on the international market.

On 27 November 2017 Italferr, as Leader of the Group formed with the Tunisian company Comete International and the Algerian company Medevco, was appointed by the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) to provide services for a “Feasibility study for the rehabilitation and modernisation of the Trans-Magreb railway”.

This Italian/Tunisian/Algerian group was selected by an international tender process that saw the participation of the most important engineering companies operating in the Maghreb region, and has confirmed the group's ability to combine its international experience in developing important railway projects with solid knowledge of the local context, and the involvement of a team of highly qualified experts.

The project is financed by the African Development Bank (ADB) and will set out the action necessary to completely modernise the Casablanca-Algiers-Tunis trans-Maghreb railway and will identify the measures necessary for putting into effect the railway investments that have been identified for that region.

In this regard Italferr's new Director of Market and Foreign Development, Admir Nocaj said: this new order is of significant strategic importance since it aims to create a rail network for integration and exchange in the Maghreb, thereby favouring interoperability between the different railway systems, strengthening the connection and standardising the operating characteristics, whilst paying special attention to cross-border problems and the socio-economic aspects of its impact on the affected population.
