Italferr is awarded the preliminary design contract for the new Turin Metro Line 2

Engineering know how and expertise in the strategic urban mobility sector.

Italferr, as part of a temporary grouping headed by SYSTRA, has been awarded a contract for the preliminary design of the new Turin Metro line 2 “Rebaudengo-Cimitero Parco” and the feasibility study for the north-eastern and south-eastern line extensions.

The new line, 14.5 km long, is an essential part of Turin’s metropolitan transport system, especially to increase multimodal transport services in the southern section of the city, which also hosts the area of Fiat Mirafiori, which is undergoing radical redevelopment.

The synergy with SYSTRA boasts a longstanding experience in the design and construction of metropolitan railways, and which, thanks to this new contract, will play an important role in designing a “metropolitan system” as a whole, with its complexities and innovative technological characteristics, such as automated train operations, like the existing line 1.

Italferr, in particular, will design 6 stations above ground, as well as depots and workshops, and carry out geological and infrastructure safety studies.

This new project – said Carlo Carganico, CEO of Italferr – highlights and consolidates the multidisciplinary engineering experience of both Italferr and FS Italiane group, in the strongly growing urban mobility sector; designing infrastructure works in a complex urban environment, in fact, requires specific engineering skills and capabilities, those which underpin our position at the forefront of excellence, in Italy and worldwide.
