The CEO of Italferr and the management of FS Italiane meet up with junior Italian diplomats

Seminar on the role of economic diplomacy in business internationalisation, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Training Department of FS Italiane.

On 19 December, fifty-six young secretaries of legation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation met up in Rome, at Villa Patrizi, with the managers in charge of the international operations of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane to explore the various aspects of this sector: from the role of infrastructure in the development of the worldwide rail market, to the regulatory framework of railways in Europe; from the global penetration by FS Italiane, to the new 2017-2026 Business Plan, which sets out the Group strategies for the next ten years; to the success stories abroad of Italferr, the engineering company of FS Italiane.

After a welcome speech by Mauro Ghilardi, head of Human Resources and Organisation at FS, the seminar was opened by Giovanni Rocca, in charge of promoting international operations at FS Group, focusing on the importance of the technology-intensive and  innovative infrastructure system of the Italian Railways for the foreign markets. Maria Rosaria Costa and Ilaria De Dominicis then illustrated the state of the art of the railway sector in Europe and the Business Plan, respectively.

This was followed by a speech by the CEO of Italferr Carlo Carganico, illustrating how the engineering company’s experience abroad and its know how have enabled it to assert itself on the international market and gain an edge over the competition of leading companies in the field.

The seminar also featured a discussion on how diplomats and diplomacy can significantly contribute to the international development of the country’s businesses.
