Feasibility study for the rehabilitation and modernisation of the Trans-Magreb railway
On 27 November 2017 Italferr, as Leader of the Group formed with the Tunisian company Comete International and the Algerian company Medevco, was appointed by the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) to provide services for a “Feasibility study for the rehabilitation and modernisation of the Trans-Magreb railway”.
The project is financed by the African Development Bank (ADB) and will set out the action necessary to completely modernise the Casablanca-Algiers-Tunis trans-Maghreb railway and will identify the measures necessary for putting into effect the railway investments that have been identified, specifically in the following sections:
1. Fez (Morocco) - Akid Abbas (Algeria) including:
  • modernisation of the existing Fez-Oujda line (354 km) in Morocco;
  • modernisation of the existing Oujda (Morocco) - Akid Abbas (Algeria) cross-border line (17 km).

2. Cross-border section from Annaba (Algeria) to Jedeida (Tunisia) including:

  • modernisation of the existing 245 km line from Souk Ahras (Algeria) to Jedeida (via Ghardimaou) (this section is not the subject of a route study);
  • construction of a new 110 km line (V=220km/h) from El Tarf (south of Annaba, Algeria) to east of Jendouba (Tunisia) in combination with upgrading the existing 150 km Jendouba - Jedeida line in Tunisia;
  • construction of a new 106 km line (V=220km/h) from El Tarf (south of Annaba, Algeria) to Tabarka (Tunisia);
  • construction of a new 37 km line (V=220km/h) from Ain Sebaa to north of Béja di, in combination with upgrading the existing line from Tabarka to Ain Sebaa in Tunisia.

Total delivery period for these professional services: 9 months.
