Capacity Development and Technical Support of ERC Corporate Departments
In July 2015, Italferr was awarded a contract by the Ethiopian Railways (ERC) to provide support services, broken down into two main categories: the first, Capacity Development, involved support activities in the following areas: Project Management, Strategic Planning and Corporate Finance & Safety Regulatory Body; the second, defined Technical Support of ERC Corporate Developments, involved training activities by shadowing the Ethiopian staff in charge of running the new Addis Ababa - Light Rail Transit line (AA - LRT), which has been built and managed by a Chinese company.
Activities will end in February 2018.

Consultancy services for Rail Operations Legal Framework, Operations Management, System Development & Master Document Preparation
On 14 January 2014, at the offices of the Ethiopian Railways in Addis Ababa, Italferr signed the contract for Consultancy services relating to the Operations and Maintenance organisation for the new railway line (752.7 km) connecting the Ethiopian capital and the port of Djibouti, and for the city's new light metropolitan transit line (17.41 km).
By winning this contract, Italferr has created a foothold for further expansion in Africa, where the local governments, international financing institutions and private enterprise are planning to inject large amounts of investment capital into transport infrastructure development projects.
Italferr's activities can be broken down into a number of different areas: developing rail Master Plana; guidelines for Railway Maintenance and Operations; preparing Manuals, Standards and Rules; contributing to the institutional development of the Department of Operation and Services; designing a organisational system suitable for the client's (ERC) short and medium term requirements; developing a regulatory framework and railway regulations; creating a Management System for operations and services; developing and coordinating training programmes.
Activities will end in February 2018.

Technical Assistance for the World Food Programme
Italferr has been appointed by the WFP - World Food Program (the United Nations Food Aid Agency) to assist the Agency to develop skills and knowledge in the field of logistics, in particular in improving the country's transport and logistics system and planning of the freight distribution.
The main objectives of the project are:
  • transportation of goods with a 30 vehicles train, from the port of Djibouti to the city of Adama;
  • Organization of the first container-train, always on the same route by the end of 2017;
  • Assistance to the development of the National Fleet Management System to monitor the vehicles on the Ethiopian-Djibouti corridor.

The contract started in December 2016 and will end in December 2017.
