The Brenner Base Tunnel

The Brenner Base Tunnel is an integral part of the Scandinavian-Mediterranean Core Network Corridor from Helsinki to Valletta (TEN-T n. 5).
The base tunnel, a twin-tube rail tunnel, is about 55 km long and its entrances are located near the stations of Innsbruck in Austria and Fortezza in Italy.

Already involved in the Brenner Base Tunnel project, being responsible for the Works Management activities in relation to the “Periadriatic Exploratory Tunnel" (2011-2016), in the capacity of leading company in a consortium of prime engineering companies, in 2014 Italferr concluded a Project Management Consulting services contract for the construction of the “Eisack Undercrossing” (in the area of Fortezza zone), which represents the southernmost point of the Brenner Base Tunnel. Furthermore, Italferr also assisted the BBT SE in obtaining the certification for its Integrated Management System, in accordance with the UNI EN ISO 9001, UNI EN ISO 14001 E BS OHSAS 18001 standards.Operations began in 2014 and are scheduled to be completed in 2023.
