Standards Certification of Safety and Quality of the new High Speed Line Medina-Mecca
Italferr and Italcertifer (the most qualified point of reference in Italy for the sector of certification activities in the railway industry) will certify the standards of safety and quality of the new High Speed line Medina- Mecca, in Saudi Arabia. The project includes the realization of 450 km of line prepared for a speed of 320 km/h with 25 kV power 50 Hz and signaling ERTMS Liv. 2.
In fact, the two subsidiaries of Italy's Ferrovie dello Stato, have signed in Madrid a Safety Verification Engineer contract for the second phase of the Haramain High Speed Railway Project under construction in Saudi Arabia.Partner of the deal will be the Al Shoula Consortium and the Saudi-Spanish Train Project c. LTD.
Italferr and Italcertfer will attest all the safety requirements according to European standards.
The contract has been approved by the Saudi Railway Organization and demonstrates the high quality level of Italian design and certification of safety standards.
The contract was recently extended to December 2018, including Independent Competent Person ("ICP") and Safety Verification Engineer ("FVS") activities.


Saudi Landbridge Rail Project
Rightfully taking its place among the world’s most renowned engineering companies, in August 2013 Italferr won the contract awarded by the Public Investment Fund, on behalf of the Saudi Railway Company (SAR), for the preliminary and detailed design of the new 960 km rail line linking Riyadh to Jeddah.
The contract provided for: defining the corridor, designing the rail line, the permanent way and all the civil engineering infrastructure, stations, train loading / unloading and container handling facilities, signalling system (ERTMS level 2 system), and telecommunications systems, as well developing the environmental impact activities; finally, Italferr will also be responsible for obtaining project approval.
Furthermore, Italferr was interfacing and liaising with all stakeholders affected by the rail project, until the approval of the project by the competent authorities.

On 20 August 2015, Italferr concluded a contract addendum with the said Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) for the extension of the line from Red Sea port of Jeddah to Al Jubail on the Arabian Sea, for an total length of about 1,300 km.
The design activities are completed in June 2017.
