Rail Restructuring projects in former USSR countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan
On behalf of the European Union, Italferr reviewed the project for upgrading the railway system of the former Soviet Union, with a view to fostering relations and trade with the north European countries once belonging to the former Soviet Bloc.
This project involves the rehabilitation of a 20,000 km network of rail line and includes connections with other transport modes.
Activities were completed in 2005.

Rail Telecommunications in former USSR countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan
This project, ndertaken on behalf of the European Union, aimed at the general development and improvement of the rail telecommunications and signalling systems in five central Asian countries of the former Soviet Union.
The main activities ranged from the transfer of know-how to the management of the telecommunications and signalling installations, featuring the development of feasibility studies for modernising each telecommunications and signalling system and preparing detailed specifications for the system component procurement tenders.
Activities were completed in 2003.
