On June the 6th, the "BIM & Digital Twin Workshop" organized by the BIM & Asset Management structure of Italferr's Technology Innovation and Digital Spoke Department, in collaboration with the FS Group, took place at the Rome headquarters of Villa Patrizi and in Teams connection.
Roberto Tundo, Chief Technology, Innovation & Digital Officer of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane, opened the proceedings, pointing out, "the reason we wanted this workshop is to invest our own time, the most valuable resource we have at our disposal, to delve into what can be achieved through BIM, an issue that is now horizontal in nature across the entire company". He also emphasized that it is absolutely necessary to create a common knowledge base and shared language about what the different Holding Companies do and the different roles they play, in order to increase the value of the Group to the outside world as well.
Key representatives of FS and the various structures of Trenitalia, ANAS, RFI, Italcertiferr, Mercitalia, Ferrovie Sud Est, Ferservizi, Busitalia, FS Sistemi Urbani and Hellenic Trains and specialists from FS Technology were called to participate in the event.
Elena Arista and Stefano Nocentini from Gartner took the floor next, with a brief speech representing the company's commitment to and support for the FS Group and its approach to digitization and technological innovation.
Finally, Daniela Aprea, Italferr's Director of Technology Innovation and Digital Spoke, introduced the day's themes, explaining the goals of the initiative and also recounting the path of development that has led the FS Infrastructure Hub's Engineering Company to be recognized as the Group's BIM & Digital Twin center of excellence.
During the morning, colleagues from the BIM & Asset Management structure presented the concept of digital management of information processes, through the use of BIM and Digital Twin, presenting Italferr's significant experience in this field and the standardization process carried out by the structure.
In addition, several topics related to the current regulatory framework, documentation management activities for BIM tenders, and the concept of interoperability and data sharing also were discussed in depth.
The afternoon was dedicated to illustrating BIM and Digital Twin in the different phases of the work life cycle, from design to construction to experiences related to maintenance and monitoring of infrastructure elements. The talk concluded with the illustration of an application case related to Lot 1A of the new Salerno-Reggio Calabria High-Speed Line.
During the course of the day there were several Question & Answer moments, with the intention of exchanging ideas and interesting facts with the participants through discussion points that opened the doors for numerous future collaboration ideas, going to consolidate even more the collective growth factors for the FS Group. On the whole, a significant and valuable day for the entire Group's Technology, Innovation & Digital team, aimed at capitalizing on the wealth of ideas, experience and knowledge with the goal of generating shared value and creating new synergies within the large FS family.
