As part of the development of the final design for the 'Completion of the Doubling of the Parma-La Spezia line (Pontremolese) - Parma-Vicofertile Section', Italferr, the engineering company of the FS Group's Infrastructure Hub, has drawn up the new Sustainable Construction Site Environmental Project - PACS.
An important document that, in addition to identifying and assessing the significance of the potential interferences induced by the work-site activities on the external environment, presents the new approach adopted in terms of construction site sustainability.
In the PACS, a water balance is developed for the Base Construction Site and the Operational Construction Site, identifying the needs and potential recovery of the water resource, an energy balance for the Base Construction Site in order to assess the incidence of energy produced from renewable sources compared to the energy consumed, and the reduction of CO2eq ensuing from the reuse of excavated soil and rocks within the project.
A further element of innovation is the definition of the sustainability class of the construction site at the design stage and thus its level of sustainability through the application of the principles set out in the document 'The Sustainable Construction Site: Methodological Guidance Document - Position Paper 05' issued by AIS - Sustainable Infrastructure Association.
This is yet another great achievement by Italferr confirming its vision, in line with that of the FS Group, of devising and promoting new methodologies at the service of sustainable development of the country, even during the construction of major railway works.
