RAILWAY PROJECTS FOR CORRIDOR NO. 4 (NORTHERN BRANCH)

Italferr, as leader of an international joint venture, was entrusted by the Romanian railways CFR (Compania Natonala de Cai Ferate - Railway Company of the Romanian Republic) with the technical assistance for the rehabilitation of the railway sections Brasov-Sighisoara (130 km), Sighisoara-Coslariu (98 km), Coslariu-Simeria (68 km), Predeal-Brasov (26 km) and Craiova-Calafat (107 km) of Corridor No. 4.

As a guarantee of the principles of compliance with European standards, the work included the revision of feasibility studies, executive design, modernisation of the railway infrastructure and technological upgrading. The contract was co-financed 85 percent by the European Commission from the ISPA fund (structural support program for countries joining the European Union) and 15 percent by Romanian Railways.

The feasibility study and final design were completed in May 2013. Technical assistance during construction began in January 2012 and was completed in December 2020.
