MUMBAI METRO SYSTEM

Mumbai with its approximately 18 million inhabitants is the city with the highest population density in the world as well as among the most congested and polluted. Considering that a significant responsibility for the pollution from which the city suffers is due to car traffic, the state of Maharashtra has taken significant programs to improve its transport infrastructures and in particular those on rail. The aim is to offer citizens a city more livable, less polluted and with public transport that meets the needs of the exponential growth of the city.

The development program of the metropolitan and suburban lines is managed by governmental or public/private companies and primarily among these is the governmental Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). Italferr, partner of an international consortium made up of the Spanish Ayesa Ingenieria y Arquitectura (leader) and the Indian partners Consulting Engineering Group LTD and Ayesa India, was awarded the contract for General Engineering Consultancy services for lines 7 and 2B. Specifically, the assignment envisaged the verification/integration of existing projects, verification of executive projects, project management, works supervision, testing and commissioning, for Civil and System Works.

Line 7 stretches 16.5 km between Andheri East and Dahisar East with a total of 13 stations.

Line 2B runs for about 23 km between Nagar to Mandale and includes 22 stations, connecting the eastern and western suburbs of the city.

Line 7 went into operation in January 2023.
