The Energy Saving Department, created by Italferr to investigate opportunities for rationalising energy consumption and reducing emissions from the rail infrastructure of the entire national network, is part of the national and European objectives of decarbonisation and reduction of global energy needs.
The objective is to identify and then eliminate or mitigate possible inefficiencies by implementing efficiency measures capable of bringing environmental and economic benefits. These activities are possible thanks to the synergy between traditional techniques (such as field surveys) and the latest generation techniques (such as simulations of energy needs and plant production), both of which are fundamental for the correct interpretation and calibration of the energy system.
We are experts in the energy analyses of stations, buildings and industrial sites, optimising performance by surveying all utilities, performing consumption monitoring, using specialised software to create advanced simulation models and reducing energy waste.
We assess the environmental benefits of infrastructure projects, in terms of energy consumption and emissions, also supporting the integration of renewable energy plants. We provide assistance in accessing economic incentives and carry out targeted monitoring campaigns to identify the best technological solutions.
