At Italferr, sustainability is a crucial part of each project design stage, to ensure that projects become increasingly integrated and sustainable, to meet the development needs and potential of local communities.
Building on their engineering know how and cross-sector skills, Italferr engineers are well-equipped to apply an environmentally and socially conscious and community-driven design process, by producing ad hoc Sustainability Reports at the different design stages, implementing Methods and Protocols for assesing the sustainability of projects, integrating tools and criteria in decision-making and, last but not least, monitoring and controlling the related activities.
By building on quality and specialist skills, Italferr has been able to develop projects with a growing focus on sustainability, also thanks to the application of ad hoc criteria and principles and the production of design deliverables with sustainability at their core.
The Sustainability Reports developed at the technical and financial feasibility study stage (in accordance with Legislative Decree 36/2023) highlight the environmental, economic and social benefits of the project in the long term, providing indicators for measuring its sustainability. They contain an analysis of the project from all viewpoints and provide precious support throughout the authorisation procedure (Superior Council of Public Works, Conferences of Services, Environmental Impact Assessment).
The Sustainability Analysis attached to the DocFAP (Document of Feasibility of Design Alternatives) provides a cross-sector overview of the possible design alternatives, allowing a better understanding of the project by all the stakeholders involved, which can be used at the presentation of projects subject to Public Discussion.
Also during the DocFAP stage, design alternatives can be defined by specific analyses based on local sustainability criteria. The alternatives are compared using ad hoc evaluation tools (indicators and multicriteria analyses) depending on the technical solutions, the functionality of the project, how it integrates with local conditions and how it can help boost local development.
Methods and protocols are applied to measure a project’s sustainability and to ensure the inherent quality and far-sightedness of the entire design process.
Italferr applies sustainability methods and protocols to its services and bids, in accordance with the regulations and certifications and the use of accredited experts.
The application of these tools is also an integral part of the Sustainability Reports and can help measure the sustainability of the projects.
The Envision Protocol, the methods for calculating the Life Cycle Assessment and the Carbon Footprint are just a few of the sustainability frameworks applied by Italferr. More information can be found in the «Sustainability methods and protocols» section.
Italferr can provide expert support to its clients or the Single Project Manager, for project control purposes and for monitoring the proper application of the sustainability methods and protocols, the sustainability reports and the integration of sustainability requirements in the projects.
The Sustainability Studies, associated with projects or investments concerning urban or local transformations, provides a framework of the development potential tied to the work and guidance of the stakeholders in the strategic project planning stages.
Furthermore, thanks to an ad hoc social web monitoring platform, Italferr processes data and produces reports on passive engagement in projects, for directing the design process and the related communication activities, integrating the needs of the communities affected by the projects.
