The conference "IDE 2023 INDUSTRY DIGITAL EVOLUTION" organized by CORE Lab, the research laboratory of the Department of Innovation Engineering of the University of Salento, Lecce, was held from 21 to 23 June, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Lecce. Italferr, the engineering company of the FS Group's Infrastructure Hub, took part in the first day of the proceedings, participating in the second Session regarding the subject "Critical Infrastructure".
The Head of Italferr's Sustainability Structure, Franco Stivali, illustrated in his speech a possible approach to infrastructure design that takes into account all those aspects that guarantee durability over time, also from a social and economic point of view. In particular, some methodologies were illustrated that allow the measurement of the climate footprint and the integrated assessment of the various aspects, in addition to the strictly technical ones, typical of the construction of complex works considered critical for Italy.
Several topics were discussed during the session, ranging from Digital Twin technology to the definition and management of a digital asset, from cyber-physical risk management to energy optimization. Pasquale Ferrante, BIM Coordinator of Italferr's BIM and Asset Management structure, gave a speech on the use of BIM and Digital Twin technology in Italferr and illustrated the case study of the Borratino viaduct, where the digital twin of the existing work was developed for the monitoring of such a critical infrastructure.
The roundtable also discussed the most effective strategies, methodologies and technologies for protecting the infrastructure domain from the main threats of the digital world.
The speech was followed by a Q&A session in which all participants were able to ask questions and learn more about the Digital Twin world, also offering interesting ideas for future development.
Participation in the technical roundtables is thus confirmed as one of the tools available for exchanging views with experts in the sector and for sharing their know-how, as well as for staying up to date on issues such as the use of new technologies, digitization and different ways of working.
