Rail Baltica in Latvia

Start of activities for Consulting Engineering and Construction Supervision Services during construction and warranty period

On May 21st the Rail Baltica team gathered with representatives from the European Commission, Rail Baltica team and international partners from Italy, France, Poland, Lithuania and Estonia for the start of construction of the Rail Baltica’s mainline in Latvia. Among the attendees, Italferr – engineering firm of the Infrastructure Hub of FS Group and part of the project’s team – participated with a spoken contribution by its Project Director and signed the message for future generations stored in a time capsule.

Already involved in the design and implementation of electrification and signalling subsystems for the whole line, 870 km long, Italferr is now strengthening its allegiance in the Rail Baltica mega project with Consulting Engineering and Construction Supervision Services during construction and warranty period of the the approx. 230 km long double-track high-speed line (249 km/h), in Latvia.

Italferr will act on behalf of the Latvian implementing body of Rail Baltica LLC  Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas (EDZL). As FIDIC Engineer, Italferr will perform Consulting Engineering (Design Review) and Project Management Services for the whole length of mainline construction.

Italferr’s role during project delivery will be to enforce European standards and regulations, including those relating to ethics, health, safety and environment.

Additionally, Italferr will grant a strong presence in Latvia, bringing several experts and setting up offices on site. Activities will be carried out in collaboration with Latvian companies and subcontractors.

Leveraging on the extensive national and international experience of the FS Group, Italferr is in fact gathering a diversified team of experts, in synergy with local partners and furtherly enhanced by our activities with Riga Technical University, where we have been working with the Italian Ambassador to investigate opportunities to set up joint courses with Italian universities based on Railway Engineering topics.

 

During contract execution, the following services will be provided:

  • Reviewing construction plans and preparing for construction work;
  • Engaging international and local experts;
  • Preparing documentation in accordance with European Union regulations;
  • Conducting construction supervision in line with internationally recognized FIDIC practices;
  • Ensuring compliance with Latvian legislation for construction activities;
  • Auditing and verifying change orders, executed construction work, financial flow agreements, and other  documentation.
