On October 1st and 2nd, 2025, Italferr hosted in Rome one of the thematic workshops promoted by the EU BIM Task Group—the European group that brings together representatives of public clients and institutions from the public works sector across EU member states.
The theme of the workshop was “BIM for Infrastructures – Innovation and Efficient Management of Infrastructural Projects.” The initiative is part of the group’s activity program, which aims to promote the shared adoption of BIM and Information Management as strategic levers for the digitalization of the public construction sector. These workshops serve as key tools for sharing knowledge, experiences, and best practices through a dynamic format based on participatory roundtables and moderated discussions.
The program spanned two days: the first focused on presentation sessions and thematic insights with industry experts, and the second featured interactive workshops on case studies, challenges, and opportunities related to BIM adoption in infrastructure.
The event was primarily aimed at members of the EU BIM Task Group, including: ministries and government agencies; universities and research centers; municipalities and local authorities; policymakers and representatives of the European Commission and Parliament; publicly owned companies and standardization bodies. The Italian delegation included Italferr, Anas, the University of Brescia, and MIT.
European public bodies recognize the transformative role of digitalization in the construction sector. Through the group, BIM is promoted as “digital construction” to improve the quality of public assets, optimize the use of public funds, and strengthen the sector’s sustainable competitiveness.
The mission of the initiative is clear: to support public administrations in the concrete implementation of BIM and Information Management by providing tools, guidelines, and operational models to integrate digital technologies into decision-making, design, and construction processes.
The October 1–2, 2025 meeting featured the participation of CEO and General Director of Italferr Dario Lo Bosco, who concluded the event by thanking the distinguished Italian and international guests. He reaffirmed the importance of the shared adoption of BIM as a strategic lever for the digitalization of the public construction sector, with the goal of enabling and facilitating more innovative, efficient, and sustainable management of public works.
