Italferr’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Dario Lo Bosco, took part in Remind’s Italian Innovation and Sustainability Forum, speaking during the “Innovation and Sustainability: New Routes for Italy” session. Here he shared the sustainable innovation models that Italferr is moving ahead with as drivers of innovative high-tech engineering in Italy and around the world, with institutions, sector companies and experts, along with Gruppo Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane.
“Our action is based on the conviction that scientific research, technology and innovation must make a real contribution to sustainable growth of the Country and to the development of systems at both a European and an international level” said Mr Lo Bosco.
With its presence on 5 continents and 15 foreign centres, as well as those in Italy, Italferr proudly applies unique digital systems in Europe and, thanks to adopting BIM 4D & 5D, it integrates technology, safety, and know-how to counteract delays and variations while works are in progress, prevent inefficiency affecting public finance, and pursue a “zero death rate” goal in the workplace.
It focusses on digital platforms and technologies made available to Public Administration as well, in order to avoid interfering with sub-soil giving rise to avoidable “impacts”, working with geothermal and satellite surveys, with prior checking for any pre-existing archaeology, in order to make construction of infrastructures more efficient, while valorising “finds” and cultural assets.
The matters dealt with included the Bridge over the Messina Straits which is a symbol of social and technical union. It is also a key part of the strategic Palermo-Berlin-Helsinki-La Valletta corridor, able to bring regions and peoples closer, looking towards 2030 in terms of the ecosystem, in line with strategic goals to reduce road freight traffic by 30%, in favour of rail and sea traffic, thereby contributing to improving the quality of the air and to combating climate change.
This model of excellence of Italferr’s was acknowledged by the prestigious OICE 2025 Award, which saw Italferr in first place on the sustainability podium.
Italferr also leads the way in overseeing worksites, thanks to collaboration with Law and Order Forces, Prefectures, Companies and Universities. “We are involved in offering new prospects to talented youth, - pointed out Mr Lo Bosco - creating job opportunities in “railway trades” and for technicians, the real driving force behind sustainable development.
The Remind Forum offered a precious occasion for discussion and sharing of best practices, confirming Italferr’s leading role on the Italian and international stages.
