A few days after participating in the Saudi Rail 2025 Fair, Italferr continues to strengthen its international partnerships in the Middle East, spreading the excellence of Italian engineering globally.
In its recent mission to Iraq, Italferr expressed its commitment to strengthening international cooperation and sharing great prospects for infrastructure development.
Thanks to the experience built up over forty years of operations in more than 20 countries, already at the forefront of the development of strategic projects for mobility and logistics in the region, Italferr has further strengthened its position as a key partner for the construction of sustainable, digital and integrated railway and transport infrastructure.
Among the principal projects carried out are the design of the Musayyib–Kerbala–Najaf–Samawa railway, a 227-kilometre line designed for speeds of up to 250 km/h, and the new port of Al Faw, destined to become a regional logistics hub between the Gulf and Europe. These projects demonstrate Italferr's ability to combine international know-how with the enhancement of local skills, promoting knowledge transfer, growth and innovation.
Irene Gionfriddo, Director of Foreign Business Development, Business Affairs and Sustainability at Italferr, highlighted Italferr's deeply rooted commitment to enhancing partnerships with foreign institutional partners, in the firm belief that “infrastructure is not just about the smart development of engineering works and AI systems, of which Italian Railways is a driver, but also focus on the ethical and professional value of people, cooperation between peoples and green progress”.
The mission to Iraq is part of Italferr’s leading role in the process of strengthening internationalisation in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and the Americas. The company is currently engaged in over 3,500 projects worldwide, with the aim of promoting infrastructure to unite people, communities and cultures, in the name of innovation, progress and sustainable development.
Our heartfelt thanks goes out to the Iraqi institutions that welcomed us, to Dr Abdulkareem Al Faisal, Chairman of the PM's Advisory Council, and the other authorities we met, to the Italian Ambassador to Iraq Niccolò Fontana, to our local partners and to my colleague and partner in the mission Ezio Pedone, and to the entire Italferr team. Thanks also to the GKSD Holding for their invaluable support and collaboration, which made this experience possible and opened up new scenarios for fruitful cooperation.
