The Lyon Turin Engagement Forum, held in Rome on 27 October 2025, was a great opportunity for further strengthening our commitments on sustainability and the application of ethical and safety standards in the construction of the cross-border section of the Turin-Lyon high-speed/high-capacity railway line. The event, organised by TELT (Tunnel Euralpin Lyon Turin), was attended by Italferr, which operates as the site supervisor for the Italian part of the project, verifying and monitoring the innovative aspects ranging from BIM design to environmental and social sustainability requirements.
In his speech at the Forum, Italferr’s CEO and General Manager Dario Lo Bosco emphasised how "our 4D and 5D BIM, for the digital management of time and costs, is an advanced tool that – thanks to an innovative and unique platform in Europe – integrates the engineering and safety know-how of the Italferr teams to pursue the goal of “zero work-related deaths” and optimises the “work-environment-safety” link. We operate with transparency, efficiency and digital control of construction site progress to avoid changes during construction, delays and extra costs”.
Irene Gionfriddo, Director of Foreign Business Development, Business Affairs and Sustainability at Italferr, also attended the Forum, speaking at the round table on the subject of “Sustainable construction sites: the winning formula for a binational project exists. 1+1=3”, highlighting Italferr's crucial role in managing sustainability throughout the “lifecycle” of such a complex project as the Lyon-Turin tunnel.
The Forum, however, did not just tackle engineering issues, but also formalised a series of joint commitments on fundamental matters for construction sites and local communities. Documents were presented covering three main areas, namely:
1. Commitment against the use of drugs and alcohol
2. Protection of Alpine Biodiversity
3. Ethics and Whistleblowing
All the participants shared the commitment to create synergies between all the stakeholders, to hand down to the future generations a globally strategic project that will serve the development of green mobility in the TEN-T network within the EU.
Of special importance was the presentation of the “Common Ethical Charter for Whistleblowing and Ethical Oversight”, to build a working environment based on integrity, transparency and safety. The aim is to collectively recognise key values and guarantee the right to report illegal behaviour, irregularities or risks in good faith.
The common commitment to sustainability objectives was summarised by the concept of “people”. This term takes on a strategic and multidimensional meaning and includes:
Placing people at the centre – which Italferr is consistently engaged in doing within the FS Italiane Group to which it belongs – means adopting a systemic vision that integrates environmental, social and economic dimensions into a whole, recognising teams of women and men as a lever for transformation and innovation.
