"The synergy between government institutions, agencies and state-owned companies is crucial to optimising the safety of mobility and infrastructure throughout their entire life cycle."
These words were spoken by the CEO and General Manager of Italferr Dario Lo Bosco, at the Ansfisa Conference held in Naples, on the theme of “Knowledge, supervision and safety. Priorities and development at local level: preventing hydrogeological risk, authorisations, surveillance and control activities.”
In his speech, Mr Lo Bosco emphasised the commitment of Italferr, and the entire FS Group, to digitisation in public construction projects through Building Information Modelling (BIM), a fundamental tool for improving the design quality and the “inherent safety” of infrastructure projects, from design to decommissioning, including maintenance.
“The three-dimensional representation of infrastructure also enables us to harmonise the “project-environment” relationship. Thanks to the development of the digital innovation process at Italferr, which has led to the creation of special 4D, 5D and plus platforms, we aim to use BIM to prevent delays and extra costs, avoiding changes during construction and working towards achieving the goal of “zero deaths” at work.”
By combining geothermal energy and satellite surveys, Italferr has developed a unique patent in Europe, which allows us to identify potential interference with the subsoil even before excavation begins, as in the case of pre-existing archaeological sites. These assets can therefore finally become elements that can be enhanced and no longer “obstacles” to the progress of the works.
"Italian engineering excellence is recognised globally, and Italferr – which is at the forefront of this excellence – has been called upon all over the world, as far afield as India, to design, supervise the construction site and complete the Anji Khad, the country's first cable-stayed railway bridge, for which we received the ENR Award of Merit.
The OICE 2025 award for ESG/Sustainability also confirmed the value of Italferr's commitment to scientific research and digital technology projects for environmental protection."
Finally, Mr Lo Bosco recalled the value of training and digital culture: "Together with ANSFISA, we have signed a memorandum of understanding for training, which is essential for transmitting digital culture and providing increasingly advanced tools to the public administration."
The event organised by the National Agency for Railway, Road and Motorway Safety, was a valuable opportunity to meet with distinguished guests, such as the Director of ANSFISA Domenico Capomolla, and the Undersecretary of State responsible for the CIPESS Alessandro Morelli, confirming Italferr's leading role, with FS Group, in spreading the culture of sustainable growth and risk prevention in Italy and around the world, at the service of the local communities.
