Italferr with Gruppo FS at the UIC World Congress of High-Speed Rail

The major event dedicated to high speed railway systems in Beijing

From 8 to 11 July the 12th edition of the UIC World Congress on High-Speed Rail was held in Beijing. The 2025 event was organised jointly by the China State Railway Group Corporation Limited and the International Union of Railways (UIC), bringing together 180 speakers and more than 2,000 representatives of international railway organisations, scholars and experts in the sector from more than 60 countries.

The aim of the Congress was to examine the current state of development of High Speed Rail (HSR) worldwide, looking at the latest technologies in the sector and formulating a vision for development of the HSR of tomorrow. Dialogue and exchanges between countries was promoted, thereby directing future research and the development of new railway systems.

The FS Group was represented by Ugo Dibennardo, New Markets Manager, who shared strategic viewpoints and best practices with the major players globally in terms of high speed railway travel, along with other experts from some companies in the Group, who took part in sessions held at the same time.

Italferr was represented in the form of a Speaker by Pierangelo Rivoli, Digital Rail Infrastructure Design & System Manager, who spoke on the topic "Digital Design (BIM) of Railway Trackworks: Innovative solutions for construction phases". He dealt with digitalisation of the conventional and the high speed railway infrastructure and its construction phases, using operational application of the 4D and 5D, which is an evolution in railway design. Another speaker was Serena Martini, Sustainability Manager, with a presentation on “Toward the Guidelines for the Territorial Impact Assessment of HSR Projects”, the result of a long period of research carried out with the FS Research Centre, aimed at assessing the impacts on territorial cohesion of railway infrastructures in relation to the regional characteristics.

This involvement confirms Italferr’s position as an international point of reference in the high speed railway services and infrastructures sector, in which they are ever more involved in innovative collaborations and projects to facilitate travel that is sustainable, integrated, and looks to the future.
