An important award in the field of digital innovation applied to the design and implementation of complex infrastructure projects
The outcome of the periodic supervisory audit of last 22 June, conducted by the Auditors of ICMQ S.p.A., confirmed the certification of Italferr's BIM Management System - in compliance with the Reference Practice UNI/PdR 74:2019 - for the field of application: "Design, including procurement management, works supervision of transport infrastructure".
The Audit Group paid particular attention to the innovations and evolution of the company's BIM Management System with respect to the previous topics covered. Indeed, the audits focused on the main innovations, in terms of digital development, that have materialised in the last year, such as the implementation and standardisation of BIM libraries necessary for the complete representation of infrastructure works.
During the Audit, starting from a practical case, the operational flow currently in use for the purpose of BIM design was illustrated with the use of iTwin technology that allows the so-called Digital Twin of the work to be realised as early as the initial stages of the process. This modus operandi, as also emerged during the Audit, improves the representation of the work, favouring its understanding by all stakeholders, with important simplifications in terms of information sharing, which may prove decisive in public debate and in the occasions of exchange with the communities affected by the interventions for the purpose of a more effective implementation of the design choices.
At the same time, several experimental activities aimed at digitising the worksite were presented, more specifically the digital management of documentation, from non-conformities to work progress and Safety Integrity Level status management, using 4D/5D models.
The auditors witnessed the widespread knowledge of the BIM Management System and its systematic application within the organisation, strongly oriented towards continuous improvement.
The activity involved the 'HSQE Systems' Organisational Structure that oversees compliance with the Reference Practice, the newly established 'TID Spoke & Digital Rail Infrastructure Development' Department as process owner of the BIM Management System, and the other corporate functions responsible for the Organisation and Development, Procurement and Risk Management processes, all of which have worked together to achieve this satisfactory result.
The positive outcome of the Audit, which resulted in no non-compliances, confirms how Italferr recognises BIM as being one of the strategic elements for achieving its main corporate objectives, thanks to its people and their ability to propose increasingly innovative technological solutions, aimed at digitising processes.
