Agra Metro in India: the trial run begins

Italferr engaged in Project Management Consultancy activities

A new important milestone has been reached for Italferr, the engineering company of the FS Group's Infrastructure Hub, which, in a JV with the Spanish engineering company TYPSA, is working on the 'General Consultancy Engineering Services' project for the Kanpur and Agra Metro railway lines in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

On Wednesday, 26 July 2023, Uttar Pradesh State Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the 'trial run' phase of the Agra Metro at Taj East Gate station. The trials will be carried out along an approx. 3 km long elevated stretch of the priority corridor, a mix of elevated and underground sections, totalling 6 km from Taj East Gate station to Jama Masjid station.

Mr. Yogi Adityanath said: "It is a moment of pride to share with all of you the beginning of the high-speed trial runs of the Agra Metro. The Agra Metro team has done a commendable job".

The new metro will begin routine service by February 2024, which is six months earlier than the planned date of August 2024. The entire line will feature two corridors connecting Sikandra to Taj East Gate (13.7 km) and Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar (15.7 km) respectively, for a total length of 29.4 km.

The government's goal is to bring a world-class metro service to Agra and provide residents with modern, sustainable and efficient transport options.

This is the largest contract that Italferr has ever acquired in India, with which it confirms its leadership not only in the High-Speed sector but also in the international metropolitan public transport sector. This makes it, in fact, one of the main players in the Indian engineering market, where the company has been present for several years now with a branch in New Delhi.
