Work on the new Bari SS 16 ring road completed

A step forward in the revamping of the Bari SUD hub

The section of the ring road between the via Amendola junction (northbound) and the via Caldarola junction (southbound) has been reopened to traffic. Closed in 2018, with traffic diverted onto an alternative route, the work is part of the larger contract for the revamping of the Bari Hub's southern  section, between the stations of Bari Centrale and Bari Torre a Mare, which provides for moving the current line inland with the activation of three new stops (Bari Campus, Bari Executive and Triggiano) and the construction of a four-track railway line between Bari Centrale and Bari Executive.

The project, carried out under the Works Supervision of Italferr, the engineering firm of FS Italiane Group’s Infrastructure Business Unit, consists of a 1.4 km-long-dual carriageway road, with three lanes for each carriageway, which, along its route, overpasses a canal connecting the Lama San Marco and Lama Valenzano, and the new FSI railway line.

The work is yet another important milestone in the revamping of the Bari infrastructure, aimed at improving both road and rail connections and providing significant benefits, in terms of overall mobility, for the regional capital.

In its announcement, the Works Supervision of Italferr emphasises the decisive role played by teamwork in completing the project: "Teamwork played a decisive role in overcoming the challenges encountered during the construction of this important infrastructure for the city of Bari and its population, through the reorganization and overall improvement of rail services and reconnecting of the urban fabric”.
