On the night of the 9th of June, the railway section between Rivalta Scrivia and Tortona was put into operation in its final double-track configuration, including the handover of the Rivalta Scrivia station and related passenger service facilities.
The project constitutes the final completion of the first six kilometres of double track of the final section in the northern direction of the new HS/HC line of the 'Terzo Valico dei Giovi/Genoa Hub' single project.
With the activation of the second odd-numbered track, the project will further improve the flow of freight trains to the Rivalta depot for the expansion of the connected interport, a fundamental logistics hub for the area, and will also allow passenger services to be provided at the Rivalta Scrivia station.
In addition to the doubling of the Rivalta-Tortona line and the construction of the new Rivalta Scrivia station, the works also included the complete renovation of the systems for the management of hazardous goods trains on the 7th freight yard track, as well as the reconfiguration of the technological equipment for the management of railway traffic.
The planned test runs took place between 2 and 3.30 a.m. of the 10th of June, to everyone's satisfaction.
The commitment and constant work of Italferr, the engineering company of the FS Group's Infrastructure Hub, in close and constant cooperation with the RFI structures, made it possible to achieve this important goal.
