Foggia photovoltaic plant: Italferr's commitment

BIM design for a future powered by renewable energy

Italferr, the FS Group’s engineering company, played a key role in the construction of the new photovoltaic plant by FS Energy in the Foggia countryside, designed to power the railway electricity grid. The plant, consisting of over 6,600 panels and with a power output of 3 MWp, is an important step towards the decarbonisation of the FS Group's energy consumption.

Thanks to the experience of Italferr in digital design and the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM), it was possible to optimise every stage of the process, reducing time and operational risks and achieving better landscape integration. Moreover, the digital model helped minimise environmental impact and ensure maximum efficiency in the construction of the plant.

This project is part of FS Group's green strategy, which aims to install over 1 GW of renewable capacity by 2029 and approximately 2 GW by 2034, covering up to 40% of the Group's electricity needs. The Foggia plant, together with the one in Padua, will contribute to producing a total output of 11 GWh per year, equivalent to thousands of kilometres travelled by trains in sustainable mode.

With the technical support of RFI and the engineering expertise of Italferr, FS Energy confirms its commitment to a secure and sustainable energy supply, in line with decarbonisation and green transition objectives.
