Italferr, the engineering company of FS Group, together with RFI and Anas, is playing a key role in an important cultural project that aims to create a new Atlas of archaeological finds, an innovative tool for cataloguing and disseminating knowledge about the artefacts unearthed at the construction sites of road and railway infrastructure.
The project was developed by Archeolog, the department of FS Group responsible for the preservation of archaeological heritage, which has been working in close collaboration with the local heritage authorities for many years, to ensure a responsible and sustainable approach to major infrastructure projects.
The Atlas, presented at the 2025 Mediterranean Archaeological Tourism Exchange held in Paestum, catalogues the most important finds, with detailed descriptions and images, divided by geographical area, and demonstrates how modern infrastructure can interact with history and contribute to the country's collective memory.
Italferr plays a central role in the adoption of advanced preventive archaeology methodologies, ensuring that all new railway lines are built in a sustainable manner, respecting the historical roots of the areas they cross. The commitment is to restore an unprecedented cultural heritage to the local communities, fostering a virtuous dialogue between infrastructure innovation and historical dissemination.
