Rome, 10 December 2025
The modernisation of the Roma–Lido regional line, called the Metromare, a strategic infrastructure for mobility in Rome and Lazio, is ongoing. RFI, the implementing body for the entire upgrade project, has engaged Italferr to manage the contracts for improving the performance and reliability of the service, confirming the company's role as a benchmark for designing and coordinating complex rail engineering projects.
On 10 December 2025, the project team, together with Italferr's Site Supervision Department, illustrated the progress of the works, with a particular focus on the full overhaul of the electric traction system. The presentation, dedicated specifically to the Vitinia–Acilia section, took place in the presence of the Head of the Regional Department for Transport Federico Ghera, and was attended by Italferr professionals involved in the construction work.
The technological upgrade involves increasing the conductor cross-section from 320 mm² to 440 mm² and replacing blocks, poles and equipment, which are essential measures to ensure greater efficiency and reliability of the contact line. The meeting was held to provide an account of the progress made to date and the work that remains to be done, according to the updated timeline for the completion of the traction upgrading activities, scheduled for December 2026.
This project confirms the strong joint commitment by the local governments, rail operators and construction companies involved to deliver a more modern, safer and more efficient railway line to the public. Italferr's contribution, thanks to its highly qualified expertise, is crucial to the success of this infrastructure improvement project.
