Italferr has been engaged, on behalf of RFI, in the Supervision of the Works for the completion of the "De Gasperi" stop and the related surface works, on the Palermo Centrale – Brancaccio – Carini section of the project for doubling the Palermo through rail line.
Located near the city stadium, in a heavily urbanised area, the stop has been built underground with two entrance blocks at street level, a technical building, the emergency exit stairs, firefighter entrance stairs and extensive landscaping.
In this section, the line runs in two separate tunnels, one located approximately 8 metres below ground level, following the route of the old trench, while the other tunnel, excavated with a TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine), is much deeper, at a depth of approximately 23 metres.
The platforms too are located at different depths and served by stairs, escalators and lifts, while the passage from one platform to the other is at street level.
The project also includes several urban regeneration works, in particular, the landscaping of the area above the new tunnel between the De Gasperi and San Lorenzo stops, approved by the competent authorities at the different levels of governance.
Subsequently redefined in agreement with the local government, these urban regeneration works were completed and handed over to the latter, and the community at large, on 22 May 2025.
The landscaping, and related street furniture, is being further extended in the section between De Gasperi and San Lorenzo, where it is partially completed to date. Other works include sports facilities, such as a basketball court, an athletics track near the De Gasperi stop and a fitness area at the corner of Via Maltese, all equipped with public lighting and an automatic irrigation system.
