Italferr at Catania University

The return of the Professionals - a bridge between education and reality

A valuable opportunity for transmitting skills, passion, and responsibility to those preparing to design and construct in the future.

Italferr personnel met with students at Catania University to share the real experience of those who work on large railway infrastructure worksites on a day-to-day basis.

Using video footage and multimedia content, they illustrated the project for doubling the Giampilieri – Fiumefreddo railway link, a strategic part of Sicilian rail traffic, which stands out in terms of technical complexity and high degree of engineering:  42 km of new railway line, of which more than 80% in tunnels, crossing difficult terrain and facing top level technical, environmental, and logistical challenges.

This project demands constant, multi-discipline involvement, with skill and daily collaboration between professionals, entities, and local communities. It will ensure compliance with interoperability requirements and will contribute to speeding up the entire Messina – Catania – Palermo itinerary, bringing significant benefits in terms of reducing travelling time and greater regularity and frequency of the railway service.

Italferr sought to reinstate the essence of its role in this project: from operational worksite management to coordinating works in the field, and reducing criticalities to responsibility, making them part of an event that is destined to change mobility on the Island.

We thank the Civil Engineering and Architecture Faculty of Catania University for the invitation, and the professors who continue to train new generations of engineers.
