The Italferr team completes the excavation of the Limata Tunnel

Another milestone achieved on the Telese-Vitulano subsection of the Naples-Bari HS/HC line

Work on the completion of the project for doubling the tracks on the Telese-Vitulano subsection of the Naples-Bari HS/HC route continues apace.
On 12 June, the Italferr team achieved a further milestone by completing the excavation of the Limata Tunnel, further highlighting Italferr’s dedication and high levels of expertise.

The double-track tunnel has a total length of about 296 metres and was entirely excavated with a single front attack from Benevento towards Naples.

The excavation was conducted using conventional techniques, in a challenging geological setting. To guarantee the stability of the tunnelling front, in fact, it was necessary to carry out consolidation works during excavation, employing metal pipes and other tunnel wall consolidation techniques.

These solutions were necessary due to the variable behaviour of the rockmass affected, consisting of Holocene and Pleistocene continental deposits, which are characterised by alternating loose and cohesive materials.

The activity was completed following the demolition of the diaphragms of the Reventa Tunnel and the Telese Tunnel of the Frasso-Telese Lot on 9 April 2025.

A further five tunnels are being excavated for a total length of about 5,700 m or 70% of the total.
